We are delighted to have you join us for the first ever West Coast Young Adult (YA) Retreat in August 2018! This retreat will be organized by the YAs, SSE Group 4 students and YA advisors from Region 6 (Pacific North), Region 7 (Northern California and Nevada) and Region 8 (Pacific South) and is open to the YAs from all zones and regions.
The 1.5 day retreat will focus on different aspects of our journey in identifying, understanding and most importantly, “Living our Purpose”. We are blessed to have with us, Sis. Sangeeta Lekhi and Bro. Sunil Lekhi, who played an active role in developing and leading the USA Young Adult program, since its inception in the 1990s. In addition to theme-focused speaker sessions, we will also have interactive workshops, breakout sessions, devotional singing and plenty of opportunities to get to know other YAs across the West Coast. Watch this space for more details.
Sangeeta Lekhi, raised in Miami, Florida, has been a part of the Sai fold since she was 10 years old. Her connection and real understanding of Swami's teachings began when she joined the Young Adult program, since its inception in 1994 and after attending the Summer Showers in Brindavan in 1995. Many of Sangeeta's learnings comes from direct experiences with Swami, as well as from opportunities of participating and serving in Sai's Organization.
In 2004, Sangeeta became one of the first two youth to become members of the National Sathya Sai Council, leading and coordinating the program for the USA young adults. Although her education and work experience was in Accounting and with an MBA, after Swami's direct guidance, she switched to the Teaching profession, and got her M. Ed. and taught Math to At-Risk students at a second-chance high school in Manhattan, NYC.
Sangeeta is blessed with a wonderful and supportive husband, Sunil, and her two boys, Krishna and Narayan. They lived in NYC for 13 years, and in 2012, moved to Edison, NJ. Sangeeta now teaches Middle School Math at a private school in NJ. She currently is the SSE Coordinator for Edison Sai Center, and is the US lead for the SSIO Archive Committee.
Sunil Lekhi came to know of Swami over 30 years ago, when his Mother announced “We have found God” after her first trip to Parthi. Sunil was involved in the inception of the USA Young Adult Program in the early '90s, and helped develop the program. He launched and organized several initiatives, and has been blessed with interactions and experiences with Swami. He was the Founding Editor of the Sai Young Adult Newsletter, USA, the official youth publication for which Swami blessed and gave specific guidance. Sunil has also received the Phyllis Krystal Method Training Certification in Germany, and he regularly practices the tools to connect to Sai within, and to get rid of inner obstacles. Sunil loves being an SSE Teacher, and thinks this is one of the best things that happened in his Sai life. Sunil has a Masters in Computer Science and an MBA.
