Serving at God’s Pantry: Lexington, KY
Inspired by their senior Sai volunteers, members of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Lexington, Kentucky, have been participating in a long-term service at the God's Pantry Food Bank. Indeed, a few members who started volunteering when they were young, have continued for more than two decades and now volunteer alongside their own children.
The volunteers sort food donated at the God’s Pantry large warehouse and repack them in boxes, which are then transported to food pantries and meal programs for families in need across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Sai volunteers donate their time several times a year participating in this invaluable service to support the God’s Pantry mission to reduce hunger in impoverished Kentucky communities.
One volunteer made a generous donation in memory of her late mother and received a Thank you note from the agency expressing their gratitude for the donation which would greatly assist food-insecure households. Touched by the note, she came to volunteer in person the very next month.
The volunteer coordinator reflected, “I count my blessings. God has given me the strength to carry this out. My parents who always helped people in need, taught me that hands that serve are holier than lips that pray. Service is important to us. Every time we come together as a group, we feel the special connection between us and our dear Lord. We believe that all service should be regarded as an offering to Him.”
