The Sri Sathya Sai Education (SSE) children of the Seattle Eastside Center recently presented a thoughtful and engaging program on the significance of Easter. Through their own research and understanding, the children beautifully explained the spiritual depth behind this sacred occasion, making it both educational and inspiring for all attendees.

The presentation began with an introduction to Easter as the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ—a symbol of victory over death, and the triumph of good over evil. The children shared how, in Sathya Sai teachings, the cross represents the need to “cut the I,” or ego, emphasizing values such as love, sacrifice, and selflessness.

They then walked the audience through the important days leading up to Easter, starting with the Lent season, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and self-reflection. The children explained how Lent prepares devotees spiritually, encouraging them to give up negative habits and cultivate virtues.

The presentation also connected Passover, highlighting its historical and spiritual context, and how it relates to the time of Moses. Moving into Holy Week, the children described each significant day with clarity:

Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ humble entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, symbolizing peace rather than power.

Maundy Thursday, recalling the Last Supper and Jesus washing the feet of His disciples, teaching humility and service.

Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion, reminding us of sacrifice, forgiveness, and unconditional love.

Holy Saturday, a day of quiet reflection and waiting.

Finally, Easter Sunday, celebrating the resurrection and the message of hope, renewal, and divine victory.

The children concluded by connecting these teachings to Sai’s message—highlighting that true celebration lies in practicing humility, service, sacrifice, forgiveness, unconditional love, hope and renewal in daily life. They also reflected on the connection between Easter and Aradhana Day, reminding everyone that the divine message transcends physical form and continues to guide us.

Adding joy and creativity to the event, the younger SSE children enthusiastically participated in an Easter egg hunt, symbolizing new life and joy. They also expressed their creativity through Easter cupcake decoration, making the celebration lively and inclusive for all age groups.

Overall, the program was a beautiful blend of learning and devotion, where children not only understood the significance of Easter but also internalized its universal values. It served as a reminder that spirituality, when nurtured from a young age, blossoms into meaningful action and loving service

One of the SSE Group 1 (Grades 1 to 3) kids shared: “I thought the Easter egg hunt was very enjoyable because all the group one students and pre-SSE students got to enjoy finding Easter eggs, and the treats and prizes at the end. I think it taught us patience because we had to wait till to enjoy the treats after the egg hunt. Everyone was happy, and it was a good way to celebrate Easter Sunday because it was a fun outdoor activity”

An SSE Group 2 (Grades 4 to 6) kid said: “Learning about Jesus was extremely meaningful because it taught us about the important values like giving, forgiveness, and sacrifice.  And to be able to share about Jesus’ sacrifice to others, made me feel happy because we are doing an act of service to spread awareness of not just what Jesus did, but how we can do to make our world a better place through forgiveness, and sacrifice. Also, by showing that there is only one religion, the religion of love, it can make all of us feel more connected.”
