"You have taught the children stories that are too long, and made them cram the whole stuff. Do not tax their memory overmuch. Short stories, 20 to 25 lines long will be the best. Don't make them learn by rote, for, what they learn under pressure, because I am coming and a programme of storytelling has to be arranged, will soon be forgotten. It will not transform the mind by soaking into it. The incidents and the morals they illustrate have to be imprinted on the heart;. They must learn not 'by heart,' but for and through the heart."
Sri Sathya Sai Baba on January 03, 1971
Stories are the main method for imparting human values to children. Spiritual truths conveyed through stories touch children of all ages at very deep levels. Stories with morals inspire us all to develop good character. Sri Sathya Sai Baba frequently includes stories in His discourses. His way of tying a story to a spiritual principle is the best model for acquiring this skill.
Phase 1: For the purpose of developing the SSE resource library, stories were selected from Swami’s discourses. Since August 2020, a group of experienced SSE teachers went through a rigorous exercise of story selection criteria keeping in mind SSIO-IT and copyright requirements. The team researched Sathya Sai Speaks, Summer Showers and Vahinis for stories. The final list of 95 stories offered on Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 95 birthday was chosen based on the human values expounded which also set the framework for the search engine below.
We will continue to develop this section and other resources. If you have any ideas or suggestions or would like to participate, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and mention- SSE resources in the subject.
