The body is the cocoon that you have spun round yourselves with the thread of your impulses and desires. Use it to grow wings to that you can escape from it.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Sathyam Sivam Sundaram, Vol. 2, P. 59.

“How does transformation take place? For instance, if we ask the question whether silver can become God or stone become God, the answer is 'YES.' When a sculptor converts a piece of rock into a beautiful idol to be worshipped in a shrine, what was inert and worthless becomes sacred. This is transformation. Similarly, an idol made out of silver becomes an object of worship. In the same manner, everything which is petty and worldly can be transformed in course of time into something sacred and divine. Such a transformation is necessary for man.”

Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 17 (1984)

True nature is omnipresent, all-knowing, self-luminous, unborn and undying, in a perfect state of hidden. It takes insight to recognize where a treasure is hidden. Even after the ore is extracted from the earth, a great deal of processing must occur in order for it to transform into a golden crown. Similarly, spiritual inspiration and regular practice are needed to transform the base metal of ego and body consciousness into the gold of divine consciousness.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba avers that the inner enemies of anger, attachment, greed, lust, malice, and pride must be transmuted "by the supreme alchemy of the Divine Urge.” He claims, "It is only when impure and unholy thoughts are expelled from the mind that sacred feelings will enter it. To experience lasting bliss, the heart has to be sanctified by filling it with love. Through that love has to be secured the highest wisdom."
