In the spirit of selfless service, 14 SSE children, along with 3 adults of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Memphis, TN, came together on December 14, 2025, to serve their four-legged friends in the shelter located at the Grace Animal Hospital.

Guided by the principle that all beings deserve care and dignity, the children prepared Christmas gift bags for the dogs. Each bag included a soft blanket for warmth, a stuffed animal for comfort, and a ball for play—small items chosen thoughtfully, with the intention of bringing joy to animals that may have experienced fear, neglect, or uncertainty.

Beyond the physical gifts, the children created handmade Christmas cards for the dogs. With colorful drawings and sincere messages, the cards reflected pure love and innocence. Some messages were playful, others gentle and hopeful, but all carried the same message: “you are seen, you are loved, and you matter”. Though the dogs will never be able to read the words, the act of writing the cards aimed to cultivate empathy and compassion in the hearts of the children.

As the children worked together—drawing, assembling gift bags, and offering their time—they practiced values central to SSE: love, compassion, unity, and selfless action. They learned that service does not require grand gestures. It requires sincerity, mindfulness, and a willingness to serve without expectation.

Grace Animal Hospital welcomed the gifts with gratitude, recognizing the kindness behind each bag and card. For the street dogs in their care, these offerings represented warmth, play, and comfort during the holiday season. For the children, the experience planted seeds of lifelong service and responsibility toward all living beings.

In serving those who cannot speak for themselves, the SSE children reminded us of a simple truth: love expressed through action has the power to heal—both the giver and the receiver. This service stands as a quiet yet powerful example of how even small hands can make a meaningful difference in the world.

An SSE student shared, “Love All Serve All, when we say love all, it includes animals. We are responsible for caring for them, as human beings.”
