Pop Up Grocery Store: South Houston, TX
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, volunteers gathered at CityRise Church in Missouri City to participate in a unique food distribution service, a part of the ongoing centennial celebrations of the Advent of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The service welcomed around 100 community members who received groceries and produce lovingly prepared for distribution.
Twenty Sai volunteers -- 5 children, 12 adults and 3 young adults -- served with heartfelt dedication, enthusiasm and a shared sense of purpose, creating a unifying bonding experience for all involved. Children helped with packing and greeting guests, the young adults coordinated the distribution and flow, and the adults handled the organization, communication, and setup. Their combined efforts created a smooth and uplifting experience for everyone involved. This service was coordinated with the Second Servings of Houston, who provided a wide range of high-quality food items that allowed volunteers to serve families facing food insecurity with dignity and care.
Throughout the morning, volunteers interacted with each guest with kindness and respect. Many families expressed gratitude not only for the groceries, but also for the warmth and attention they received. Moments like these remind us that service is not just about meeting physical needs—it is also about building connections and showing care for one another. In addition to addressing immediate needs, the service offered volunteers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of giving back to the community. Working alongside one another strengthened bonds among the volunteers and reinforced the value of teamwork, empathy, and shared responsibility.
Having volunteers from across different age groups added a special dimension to the service, highlighting how compassion and service can be learned, practiced, and passed on.
As volunteers reflect on this milestone year, the event stands as a gentle affirmation of the importance of compassion and community involvement. The service concluded with a shared feeling of gratitude—for the opportunity to give, to connect, and to serve the community together, and hearts full of thanks to all who contributed their time, effort, and support in carrying out this service with success and joy.
