Making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

The children enrolled in the Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) program at the Loudoun Sai Center, VA have been involved in various service projects, particularly at the end of the year.

On November 5th 2018, in observance of the 93rd Birthday of Sathya Sai Baba, students of Sai Spiritual Education from Sai Center of Loudoun, VA, put together hygiene bags for residents of local shelters and arranged buckets of treats for the children at the Ronald McDonald House.

The forty students, aged 4-18, arranged 93 hygiene bags of essential supplies to be distributed to homeless shelters in the DC area. Older children paired with Sai Nursery children, with older children writing ” Help Ever, Hurt Never,”  and “Love All, Serve All” on each bag while nursery children placed essential supplies such as toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer and moisturizer in each bag.

In addition, students worked diligently to put together 93 snack buckets for the children at the Ronald McDonald Charity House, a non-profit that seeks to ease the burden of children’s illness on families. Each bucket contained a pack of crackers, potato chips, as well as a simple fun game and a deck of cards to keep the sadly ill child pleasantly engaged in the waiting room as he/she waits to receive medical care at the Ronald McDonald House. The service proved to be a meaningful and rewarding experience for many of the children.

This was not the first time the Loudoun Sai Center SSE children engaged in service. In October, more than fifty students spent two hours preparing 110 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Embry Rucker Shelter in Reston, VA. The 70-bed residential facility provides emergency shelter for families and single men and women. The students also wrote messages of love and positive cheer on 140 white paper bags of goodies to uplift the spirits of the children at the Ronald McDonald House.
