Healing Cards: Detroit, MI
In 2020, the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Detroit Metro discovered the Healing Cards Project at Providence Hospital. The projects provides patients with a small note of encouragement alongside each meal. Recognizing the positive impact of these messages, Sai Center members embraced the project with zeal. Initially, the focus was on creating visually appealing cards with colorful designs. However, the emphasis shifted over time towards creating encouraging and positive messages to uplift and cheer the patients.
The Sai Center consistently delivers between 300 to 500 healing cards to Providence Hospital each month, with over 12,000 cards distributed to date. This project's beauty lies in how it allows for participation from individuals of all ages and abilities. From young SSE (Sai Spiritual Education) children to elderly members of the Center, including those residing in assisted care, everyone can contribute to healing cards that touch the hearts of strangers who are cheered and uplifted in spirit.
Hospital stays can be isolating experiences. Each positive thought conveyed through these healing cards uplifts a patient's spirits, positively impacts their mental and physical well-being and fosters a sense of strength and hope during their recovery. Remarkably, those who give often experience as much joy and benefit as the recipients.
While patients will recover and move on with their lives, they will hopefully remember the kindness of strangers during this challenging period. Good health is indeed priceless, the foundation upon which all other life goals can be achieved. We feel grateful indeed to have played a small part of the patients' journey back to recovering their heath.
