As a part of the Go Green Initiative, volunteers of Sri Sathya Sai Center of North Houston gathered together to plant 60 trees at Grant Park on May 15 2021. Twenty-eight adults and fourteen children participated with great zeal in this activity.

The group started at 7:30 AM with a safety orientation. They received instructions on tree planting and the use of various tools required. Due to the ongoing pandemic, all CDC guidelines for COVID safety protocols were followed. Texas State Parks officials were also available during the activity to answer questions and assist the volunteers with using the tools.

To facilitate social distancing, Sai volunteers were split into smaller groups of three to four members. Each group had at least one adult, and children were closely monitored. With great enthusiasm and community spirit, the volunteers planted 60 trees in two hours. They were encouraged to take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Healthy snacks were also made available to help maintain their stamina as they worked in the blazing sun.

The tree planting spanned across 3 locations within the park that were clearly marked and previously flagged by the park officials. All volunteers, especially the children, had a great time and appreciated the wonderful opportunity to bond with Mother Nature. Sai volunteers look forward to working with the Texas State Parks department in the coming months and plant additional trees.
