Free Health Fair: Dallas, TX
Sri Sathya Sai Center of Dallas, TX Hosts Inaugural Free Health Fair
The Sri Sathya Sai Center of Dallas, TX, successfully launched its inaugural health fair on July 26, with 30 volunteer physicians and approximately 60 nonmedical volunteers. Together, they provided an array of free healthcare screening services to families from a local underserved community in Plano, TX.
By partnering with a local school in the Plano Independent School District, the Sai Center identified families in need of health services. A school counselor helped to provide targeted publicity and pre-registered these families, ensuring the camp was tailored to meet their specific needs.
City of Richardson’s Mayor Pro Tem Ken Hutchenrider inaugurated the health fair commending the selfless service and dedication of the assembled volunteers. From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, guests received comprehensive free health services, including vital sign checks, visited a triage station to determine appropriate screenings, followed by consultations in dental, vision, and primary care. Volunteers also offered educational booths covering topics like ergonomics, nutrition, stroke awareness and breast health.
To ensure the event was inclusive, Spanish translators were available to facilitate communication for the guests throughout their visit. Every guests experienced genuine warmth and attentiveness in every interaction with the volunteers and medical staff.
At the conclusion of their visit, guests received a summary of their care, referrals, and hygiene kits, while children received backpacks with school supplies. Guests were also served a healthy vegetarian meal to promote nutritious eating.
Many guests expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to address long-neglected health concerns. For the participating physicians, it was a gratifying experience to help identify health conditions that may have otherwise gone unnoticed in those most in need.
The success of the health fair was a testament to the power of community collaboration and a resounding reminder of the guiding principle, "Love All, Serve All." Fueled by the expertise of enthusiastic healthcare professionals and volunteers, the SSSIO Dallas Center humbly hopes to continue such service to the Dallas community in the future.
